It’s December – Time to Decorate (part 1)

The bad news is that the flowers and plants have died, and the leaves have fallen. :(

The good news is that you can decorate outside your home, and it will last all winter!  :)

FlowersFlowers has greens (magnolia, pine, cedar), winterberry, and dogwood, along with wreaths for your door. This is one of the the pair of urns we decorated for one of the beautiful homes here in Evanston.

Here’s what the outside of our shop looks like as we approach the month of December (makes you want to come in, right?)…

Time to Decorate (part 2) will provide you with ideas and possibilities for indoor decorations. Stay tuned for more from the blog!

Mid fall update

Autumn is in full force here in Chicago. It’s been quite chilly with lots of rain, and nights with frost, and the leaves have mostly turned to shades of yellows and golds and many have already fallen.

Here at FlowersFlowers, the wedding ‘season’ is slowing down, and in its place, we shift to wedding planning (meetings with brides).

And, of course, besides for weddings, we are busy with all the “every day” events in our lives, from births, to birthdays, to anniversaries, to illness, to ‘just because’ flowers.

The flowers in the shop look very autumnal! One flower that gets lots of comments is ornamental kale…..it looks rather like a rose, particularly when in an arrangement. We have varieties in purple, white/green, and lavender. Very pretty.

We’ve started to get ilex, also known as winterberry. Most people think of winterberry as red berries, but varieties include gold and orange, perfect for fall!

With it being time to pull out the more fragile plants from outdoor containers, these branches can make perfect replacements to transition to winter.

To everyone big and small, have a fun and happy Halloween this weekend!
